AVAILABLE POSITIONS FOR TEACHING ASSISTANT - REQUIREMENTS & APPLICATION PROCESS
As is the case every semester, a number of students have inquired about becoming a teaching assistant or completing an internship in my office. As I believe these are invaluable opportunities for students, particularly those with aspirations of graduate school, I address each topic below. Additionally, I provide information regarding my policy on letters of recommendation.
The University offers students the opportunity to be a teaching assistant for credit. If credit is desired, it would be 3 hours of upper level credit with the University requiring 9 hours of TA work per week. Fewer credits could be arranged if desired. Alternatively, students may wish to be a TA without academic credit for valuable experience or to bolster a graduate school application.
Requirements for Letters of Recommendation
TA requirements
- Attend every class.
- Coordinate the guest speaker's details. (i.e., make sure they know where to go, when, that the student's get their email address to write a thank you note, etc.) This lets you interact with folks that may prove useful in your career.
- Ensure the presence of the needed equipment (i.e., VCR, TV, Overhead) in every class.
